Het Amerikaanse Toxic Holocaust levert met An Overdose of Death… hun derde langspeler af in hun bijna tienjarig bestaan. Net zoals de twee voorgangers bestaat dit album uit een berg oldschool heavy/thrash metal tracks die niet zo heel origineel zijn, maar gewoon enorm goed in het gehoor liggen en wel wat weg hebben van het knalwerk van Slayer. Goede muziek hoeft niet moeilijk te zijn, en als dusdanig ook niet voorzien te zijn van bijster intelligente teksten. Alles aan dit schijfje klopt gewoon met haar dertien tracks die geen moment vervelen. Heerlijk old school met een dito getekende cover.

Hoewel ik eigenlijk alles al heb gezegd wat er over dit album te vertellen valt, wil ik jullie nog even laten genieten van de hilarische omschrijving die ik bij dit schijfje geleverd kreeg. Toxic Holocaust and its main man Joel Grind make good on the threat to unleash the finest metal this side of the 21ste century on their Relapse debut “AN OVERDOSE OF DEATH…”. Their most accomplished record to date, “AN OVERDOSE OF DEATH…” is an unstoppable juggernaut of infectious dirty riffs, punk attitude and unforgettable anthems that could be the soundtrack to civil unrest in a post-apocalyptic world gone mad. You could pick any song on “AN OVERDOSE OF DEATH…” as the best example, but it makes no sense, they all are killers and no fillers!!! If you call yourself a fan of Metal, Punk or just kick ass Rock ‘n’ roll, TOXIC HOLOCAUST, and “AN OVERDOSE OF DEATH…” is nothing less than godsend. If this is the sound of a post-nuclear world, then bombs away!

Wanneer je je zojuist hebt bescheurd over dit scenario voor Mad Max IV, is dit album zeker jouw ding en het aanschaffen waard. Als er een template zou zijn voor goede thrashmetal heeft deze band hem gevonden.
